Sklenici umístíme pod kohout pod úhlem přibližně 45°. Zpětným tlakem na ventil (směrem od sebe) napustíme do sklenice malé množství pěny. Poté plníme sklenici pivem tahem páky k sobě. Pivo zvolna natéká po stěně sklenice.

Pěna vznikající na povrchu chrání pivo před oxidací, jedná se však o tzv. suchou pěnu, kterou je vhodné vytlačit chutnější pěnou „mokrou“. Po naplnění sklenice proto natlačíme zpětným chodem ventilu dostatek husté pěny pod již vzniklou pěnu, přebytečná pěna přeteče přes okraj sklenice.
Teplota piva při čepování
Správná teplota při čepování ovlivňuje nejen chuť piva, ale také jeho pěnivost. Teplota piva na kohoutu má být zvolena tak, aby zákazník dostal pivo ve sklenici vychlazené na 6 – 8 °C. Teplota piva při čepování by tedy měla být přibližně o stupeň nižší. Při teplotě piva pod 5 °C mohou nastat problémy se sníženou pěnivostí nebo dokonce s chladovým zákalem.
